6U Girls Program
The Waunakee Youth Hockey Association (WYHA) Girls 6U Program is designed to introduce young girls to hockey in a fun, supportive, and positive environment. This program focuses on building confidence, developing fundamental skating and hockey skills, and fostering a lifelong love of the game.
The emphasis at the 6U level is on participation, skill development, and having fun. Players will learn basic skating techniques, puck handling, passing, shooting, balance, and teamwork through age-appropriate practices and small-area games.
Our coaches create an encouraging atmosphere where every player is given opportunities to develop at her own pace. Success at this level is measured by effort, improvement, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the game rather than wins and losses.
Girls participating in the 6U program will skate with other girls and will be on the all-girls 6U team(s), depending on the number of girls who register to play at the 6U level. While being placed on the all-girls team, girls will also participate in cross-ice activities and practices alongside other Wildcat co-ed 6U players, as well as games with both all-girls and co-ed teams of similar ages and skill levels. This approach allows players to develop friendships with other girls in the program while receiving a strong foundation in hockey fundamentals.
The 6U Girls Program serves as the first step in the Waunakee Girls Hockey Pathway, preparing players for continued development at the 8U level and beyond.
