8U Girls Program
The Wildcat Youth Hockey Association (WYHA) 8U program expands on the fundamentals introduced at the 6U level by introducing more advanced skating, puck control, passing, shooting, positioning, and game concepts. Practices continue to emphasize skill development while incorporating small-area games and age-appropriate competition that encourages creativity, teamwork, and hockey sense.
Players will participate in practices, cross-ice or half-ice games, jamborees, and tournaments throughout the season, following USA Hockey's American Development Model (ADM). The focus remains on maximizing puck touches, skating repetitions, decision-making, and player development in a fun and supportive environment.
The Girls 8U Program also provides opportunities for players to build relationships with other female hockey players and become part of the growing girls hockey community within Waunakee Youth Hockey Association. Girls participating in the 8U program will be placed on the all-girls 8U team(s), depending on the number of girls who register to play at the 8U level. The girls team(s) will participate in practices alongside other Wildcat 8U co-ed players, as well as in games with both all-girls and co-ed teams of similar ages and skill levels.
Our goal is to prepare players for future participation in girls hockey while ensuring every athlete enjoys a positive experience that builds confidence, character, and a lifelong love for the sport.
