General Requirements

WYHA is a parent-run organization and depends solely on member participation to run a very large and complex operation.

• Each family with a skater 8U/Mite age through 14U/Bantam is required to work 25 community service hours each season.
• Families that only have a skater at the U6 Mite level are required to work 10 community service hours between Jan. 15 and March 15.
• Families that only have a skater at the 18U/Midget level are exempt from the community service hour commitment.

New this season:

Off-ice officiating responsibilities (scorers table, penalty box, time keeper) are essential for us to play games, and because of their importance, every skater’s family at U10/Squirt and above will be required to serve 5 hours of off-ice officiating duties during the season. These hours may count toward the 25 community service hours for those who choose to use them that way.

Examples of Community Service Opportunities:

• Working Concessions at the Rink – Main opportunity for community service hours for the club.
• Head Coach – Rostered and approved coaches at or above 8U/Learn to Play level (if applicable due to having older skaters requiring community service hours).
• Assistant Coaches – Rostered and approved assistant coach of an individual team (maximum of two per team at 10U/Squirt level and above and one per team for 8U/Mite and 6U/ Mite) per the official USA Hockey Roster.
• Team Managers 10U/Squirt and Above – Will earn their 25 hours of community service services.
• Team Managers 8U/Mite Level and below – Granted 10 community service hours; they can earn 10 additional hours working with the Mite ALD and Tournament Director in putting on the Mite Jamboree.
• Specific Fundraiser or Event Chairperson – Specific hours are determined, awarded, and tracked by the Director of Fundraising per event not based on actual hours spent. The board has the discretion to award the community service hours based on time served.
• Maintenance crew for outdoor rink
• Other special cases approved by the Board of Directors including special events, tasks, or hardships.

Activities specifically NOT qualified for Community Service Hours include:

• On-ice help by parent not rostered as an official coach
• Locker room monitor for practice and games
• Ice Pond-run activities (putting in and taking out ice, adult tournaments, etc.)
